“Off the Deck” draws inspiration from the unique summer experiences found throughout Aotearoa. This series allows me to explore the distinctive views that can be seen from various decks—each one telling its own story. The imagery of kiwiana within these paintings serves as a nostalgic reminder of the quintessential Kiwi summer.

In the summer heat, visitors often leave their wet, sandy footprints on the deck, a subtle trace of joy and exploration. The swing sways gently from the sturdy branches of the Pohutukawa, inviting relaxation and laughter. Each element captures the essence of these moments, conveying a sense of community and the simple pleasures of life in New Zealand’s vibrant summer landscape.

Through my art, I aim to encapsulate the warmth, beauty, and familiarity of these settings, while inviting viewers to connect with their own summer memories in Aotearoa.
