• Carrie Keith is an award-winning landscape artist from New Zealand, renowned for her vibrant acrylic paintings that capture the breathtaking beauty of Aotearoa. Traveling the countryside with her mobile gallery and studio, Carrie immerses herself in the diverse landscapes and rich avian life of the region, translating her experiences onto canvas. Her works reflect a deep connection to nature, showcasing the enchanting interplay of light and color. Each piece invites viewers to explore the serene yet dynamic essence of New Zealand's environment, making her creations a cherished addition to any art collection.

Carrie's artistic journey is a testament to her resilience and passion for creativity. Growing up in Invercargill, she developed a strong connection to Te Waipounamu, but it is the allure of the Far North's landscapes that additionally inspires her work. The scenic beaches and vibrant Pohutukawa trees invoke a sense of tranquility and beauty that she strives to capture on canvas.

Her exploration of Aotearoa's diverse environment, particularly the rugged allure of the West Coast, fuels her artistic expression. Each landscape she paints reflects her profound appreciation for the natural world, as well as her ambition to depict the essence of New Zealand's unique character.

The transition from fulfilling her family and community roles to embracing her identity as an artist marks a significant turning point in Carrie’s life. Amidst the challenges of balancing responsibilities, she used art as a means of connection, sharing joy with children in her community. However, it wasn’t until the 2020 lockdowns that she unearthed her true passion for painting on canvases.

Carrie's journey is characterized by relentless curiosity and a commitment to learning. By engaging with fellow artists, volunteering in local art groups, and utilizing online resources, she has cultivated her skills and developed a distinctive style. Her work serves not only as an expression of her personal experiences but also as an invitation for others to appreciate the beauty of New Zealand’s landscapes and the stories they tell.

Carrie's academic journey began when she enrolled at Canterbury University in 2021. With dedication and commitment, she graduated in 2023 with a certificate in Youth and Community Leadership, building upon her extensive experience at St John. Notably, she is the first in her family to attend university. Continuing her passion for education, she advanced her studies at Te Wānanga O Aotearoa, where she obtained a certificate in Māori and Indigenous Toi last year, and is currently focusing on Tikanga. Additionally, she has enrolled in the Whatu Kura Toi program at the Whakaraupō Carving Center in Lyttleton and has joined Rei Gallery.

Carrie's artistic inspiration is deeply rooted in Aotearoa's spirituality, influenced by memorable family adventures from her childhood and enriching experiences with her own family. She is dedicated to exploring and connecting with the land, which fuels her aspirations of eventually traveling abroad.

In the past year, her artistic practice has flourished, bolstered by successful applications to Creative New Zealand and the Creative Communities Scheme. Carrie's commitment to fostering a supportive environment for local youth is evident in her countless hours spent promoting engagement and learning without fear of judgment.

She has been developing her mobile art studio within her cherished Holden Colorado. Alongside her husband, they have embarked on numerous adventures, previously setting off with their caravan to draw inspiration from the diverse landscapes. They are now embarking on new experiences, working to install a rooftop tent and awning on a custom-made canopy to create an outdoor studio and gallery space.
