Youth Art Amberley
-
Youth Art Amberley serves as a vibrant creative hub for young artists in the region, encouraging self-expression and artistic development. Overseen by Carrie Keith, an accomplished artist and dedicated community member, the initiative thrives on the support from the Hurunui Creative Communities Scheme. With over two decades of volunteer work for youth, Carrie draws on her extensive experience to nurture young talent within the community.
Established in 2022, Youth Art Amberley aims to empower youth through art, offering a space where they can explore their creativity, build confidence, and develop skills. Under Carrie's guidance, participants are inspired to engage with various artistic mediums, fostering a love for art and a sense of belonging. The initiative not only impacts individual lives but also contributes to the cultural fabric of the Hurunui District, creating a brighter future for the community's young artists.

Youth Art Amberley (YAA) provides a dynamic environment tailored for rangatahi aged 14 to 18 to explore their artistic talents and cultivate self-confidence. The initiative focuses on fostering a safe and nurturing atmosphere where participants can express themselves freely.
At YAA, creativity takes center stage as young artists collaborate on projects that enhance their skills and community engagement. The mural created for the Amberley Pool stands as a testament to their collective effort—an artistic endeavor that enriches the space for all users. While participants are encouraged to enter competitions and art shows, these opportunities are not mandatory, allowing each individual to engage with their creativity at their own pace.
YAA not only highlights the importance of art but also emphasizes the value of collaborative expression, making it a cherished outlet for rangatahi in Amberley.

YAA has achieved impressive milestones, resulting in remarkable visual creations from Carrie's Amberley Studio on every Thursday of the school term.

Art has always served as a sanctuary, a place where individuals can express themselves and connect with others. YAA embodies this spirit by fostering an environment where creativity flourishes, allowing young people to step away from the stresses of daily life. The communal aspect of creating art not only promotes collaboration but also builds a sense of community.
Research consistently highlights the positive effects of artistic engagement on mental well-being. Engaging in creative processes can alleviate stress, improve mood, and enhance overall self-esteem. Carrie's belief in nurturing artistic abilities underscores the importance of providing a supportive space. Through acceptance and belonging, individuals can explore their creativity freely, leading to personal growth and confidence.
By creating opportunistic environments like YAA, we invite individuals to unleash their potential and celebrate their unique voices through the transformative power of art. This not only contributes to individual mental health but also helps strengthen community bonds, paving the way for a more connected and resilient society.
