Amberley Beach on a stormy dark day presents a captivating scene, where the clouds shift and swirl above, their shadows dancing across the sands. The distant horizon teases a glimpse of clear skies, hinting at a respite from Tāwhirimātea's relentless tempest on the Whenua. Yet, the chill of a South Island winter lingers in the air, reminding all of the season's harsh embrace.

This beach, however, stands as a sanctuary for the soul. With each step along the shoreline, weary minds find solace. A short stroll or a purposeful march along the water's edge clears the head, invigorating the spirit and offering a chance to reset amidst life's relentless pace. Each visit to Amberley Beach enriches the heart, leaving one renewed and ready to face the day.

In my painting, "Amberley Beach 24," I capture the essence of this rugged coastline. The artwork showcases the tumultuous waves, bordered by sentinel pines, as they stretch south toward the peninsular and Ōtautahi. Viewers are drawn in, watching as the waves shift with the changing light, and the ever-forming clouds evoke a symphony of sound—the roar of the ocean mingling with the cries of gulls along the shore.

This large piece stands as a bold statement, a focal point that transforms any space. Its moody blues and greys convey both tension and tranquility, inviting one to reflect and escape, if only for a moment, into the mesmerizing world of Amberley Beach.
